PCN - Private Corporate Networks

Navatec Voyager, Navatec.Com's online client interface, will soon provide support for an innovative service, private corporate networks (PCN). These are a comprehensive communications system which can provide any sized company with a completely integrated Voip network with such things as staff or user directories, instant reply and a stable, crystal clear low bandwidth secure transmission.

The setup for a PCN could not be simpler. All that each user requires is a registered copy of Navatec Voyager. The new Navatec Voyagers will have a PCN button which provides access to the system. Users can setup an open or a closed PCN.

Open system

An Open PCN provides users with access to the Global Directory used by all users of Navatec's Real Net. To set up a private network the user simply transfers relevant user names from the Global Directory to their PCN directory.

Closed system

The Closed PCN is a more exclusive arrangement where the user organization or company requests that users of the PCN not be registered in the Global Directory but users already receive their PCN Directories filled with the user names. This would be the typical situation with a large coporation where the PCN Directory is essentially a staff directory. Closed systems are particularly useful for work groups who simply do not want to be bothered with external contacts. At any time external contacts can be made in the regular voip section from a so-called Personal Directory.

Status discrimination

As in the case of the regular Navatec Voip services, PCN users have a lookup screen where they can see who is online and in receive mode. This means that other users are cued that another user is online only when a user wishes to receive calls. As soon as a user calls someone else their name disappeares from the online list but if someone calls them while making a call, the system informs the caller that they are on a call.

Conferences

Online conferences are an easy-to-setup and use feature of PCNs. A PCN conference is started by two people and then any number of participants can be added. Essentially the person setting up a conference can just keep adding names. The process calls the person and informs them that they have been invited to a conference. To date the largest conference has involved in excess of 100 participants and yet the per machine Navatec Voyager Voip bandwidth consumption is extremely low.

Progressive conferences

PCN conferences are particularly good for what are known as progressive conferences. These are where the participation might change during the course of the conference. A department director can initiate a conference by sending out a agenda using Navatec's universal channel (UC) or Navatec's spam free mail (SFM). The agenda might contain the points to be discussed and the people who should contribute. Once people join, text communications can also be by the chat system within the Voip applications. During the conference the UC can be used to contact people to see if they are ready to join, documents can be sent to people to read before they join. So as the meeting progresses through the agenda so decisions can be sent out to, for example, the CEO who after reading the brief can request that he be called to joing the conference. In this way a PCN progressive conference is particularly productive in its support any ongoing productive dicussion and exchange of paperwork.

No other Voip applications or services have this versatility. In most competing Voip applications all conference participants need to be called at the outset. In order to add an extra person the whole conference setup has to be repeated and this is disruptive because the conference has to stop and ten start again. Also, most Voip conferencing systems are limited to around 6 participants. This is because the bandwidth absorption on services such as Skype, can be excessive leading to data loss.

The bandwidth consumption on the Navatec Voip is amongst the lowest of all services but offers very clear and stable transmission.
